We are trained to gather facts, unravel complicated stories, make high-stakes calls on what’s important and then decide how to best communicate to different audiences.
For decades, we quickly have gathered facts and unraveled complicated stories. We make high-stakes calls on what’s important and how to best communicate to audiences.
Kevin Whitmer
Kevin Whitmer served as the top editor at The Star-Ledger and NJ.com from 2009-2021 before founding Whitmer Consulting with his wife, Regina.
Whitmer’s career in daily journalism spanned 36 years — 30 of them in New Jersey. He was part of three Pulitzer Prizes, 23 New York Emmy Awards and every major national journalism award that recognizes News, Sports and Business coverage. The Star-Ledger also has received the New Jersey Press Association’s General Excellence award as the state’s top newspaper 8 of the past 11 years.
Most recently, he served as Advance Local’s lead editor in New Jersey, responsible for all content on NJ.com, LehighValleyLive.com and affiliated digital platforms, plus what appears in The Star-Ledger and three other daily newspapers.
He led the newsrooms through the digital revolution and dramatic changes to an industry that often felt like it was in a death spiral. He positioned the newsroom for success, and it continues growing and investing more resources for coverage of New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley. His teams built audiences across multiple digital platforms, reaching an estimated 6 million adults every month. By itself, NJ.com now reaches more than 1 million unique visitors, more than 2.5 times the daily circulation of The Star-Ledger at its peak. In addition, the NJ.com brands have earned the trust of highly engaged audiences on Facebook (1.2 million likes), Twitter (542,000 followers), YouTube (303,000 subscribers) and Instagram (289,000 followers).

Whitmer has launched print, digital, audio and video products, and consulted on initiatives and partnerships outside of the newsroom, developing relationships with business and political leaders across the state.
More than anything, he prides himself on the impact work his teams produced while navigating the myriad challenges his generation faced in an industry that now changes by the minute.
He remains a proud graduate of Phillipsburg High School and Rutgers University.

Regina Whitmer
Regina Whitmer is an award-winning journalist and book editor with more than 30 years’ experience reporting, writing, editing, coaching and proofreading. Her experience spans a variety of industries and platforms. But she’ll always have a soft spot for newspapers, as she met Kevin at The Courier-News, her first full-time job, while they both were in college.
Her freelance career has included diverse, sometimes unconventional, experiences in nonprofit and corporate communications and marketing, custom content for trade publications, original reporting and publication of newsletters and magazines. Her ability to pivot has allowed her to write witty descriptions for a novelty toy catalog one day, then break down health insurance news for a wire service the next.
Her real passion is copyediting — she stans AP Style — and doing developmental and structural editing with new authors. She has edited memoir and fiction books as well as corporate history books and training manuals.
Regina is active in her community and has won awards for journalism, community service and leadership. She’s a proud Philly girl and graduate of Cook College at Rutgers University.
